Atlanta Falcons Draft QB Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th Pick of the 2024 NFL Draft

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Penix is an elite deep ball thrower who led his Washington Huskies to the college football national championship where they lost to the Michigan Wolverines.

Last year, the Falcons finished the season with a 7-10 record. The Falcons' offense struggled with poor quarterback play led by quarterback Desmond Ridder.

This pick comes as a surprise to many Falcons fans as the franchise recently signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a big money deal during free agency. This pick may symbolize the Falcons' intention to mimic the frequent approach of the Green Bay Packers who draft young quarterbacks to sit for a few years before allowing them to start for established veterans. Regardless, the Falcons will now have a deep quarterback room going into the 2024 season, which is never a bad thing.
