The Washington Commanders drafted LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Before making this selection, it was assumed that the Commanders would take a quarterback with the second overall pick. During the pre-draft process, media draft analysts speculated that Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, or Drake Maye would be the best fit for this quarterback-struggling Commanders team.

This past season, Daniels won the Heisman trophy. Before playing two seasons at LSU, Daniels started his college football career at ASU where he played for several years. Last season, the Commanders finished with a horrid 4-13 record to finish the season. The Commanders will now seek to turn that losing record around with their new ownership group and Heisman trophy-winning quarterback.
